TECHNOLOGY

Mackay Test and Tag uses the latest technology to help ensure you are compliant with all the acts, regulations and standards. Not only do we keep you compliant, but we also provide you with a full management system that will keep you meeting the requirements well into the future.

THE TEST AND TAG PROCESS

We carry out a comprehensive test regime on all mains-powdered equipment connected by a flexible core to a power outlet in accordance with AS/NZS 3760. This starts with a detailed visual inspection for visible defects that may compromise the safety of the appliance. This is followed by a sequence of electrical tests. The test sequence will vary according to the type of compliance but fall into 3 main categories. Earth Circuit Integrity, Insulation Integrity and Polarity.

EARTH RESISTANCE

This tests the ability of the earthing circuit of the appliance to carry fault current to Earth. Double-insulated appliances are not subject to this test. This can be either a Bond test or a Screen test depending on the type of appliance.

INSULATION RESISTANCE

This tests the ability of the insulation of the electrical conductors to prevent any current from “leaking” out of the wires. This usually involves both a regular Insulation Resistance test and an Earth Leakage test.

POLARITY

This test confirms that the Active, Neutral and Earth conductors are correctly connected at each end of the power cord. This is usually only done on extension cords. detachable power supply cords (as used on computer equipment) and power boards.

WHY LASIX? SHOULD I CONDUCT A TEST & TAG?

The Work Health and Safety Act 1995, Electrical Safety Act & Regulations 2002 and the Australian Standards AS/NZS 3760 clearly state your obligations. Mackay Test & Tag are here to help you through the headaches of making sure you are compliant and avoid the unnecessary accidents and legal ramifications that may follow.

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN TEST & TAG?

Depending on the class of the equipment a range of tests will be done in accordance with the Electrical Safety Act and AS/NZS 3760 using a Seaward PT300, the latest in Bluetooth technology.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TEST & TAG?

The frequency of testing depends on the type of equipment and the environment in which the equipment is used. The Electrical Safety Act 2002 and Australian Standards AS/NZS 3760 clearly state these time frames and ranges from 3 months to 5 years.

WHAT IS AS/NZS 3760?

This is a document written by a Standards Australia committee with members from a variety of industries related to electrical equipment and safety. The standard specifies the procedures and criteria for the in-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment which is designed for connection by a flexible cord. It also applies to extension cord sets, portable outlet devices (power boards), portable residual current devices (safety switches) and portable isolation transformers.
